A Little About Providence Children’s Home

  • Providence Children’s Home started over 20 years ago from a vision of a member here at SLMC. After purchasing 15 acres and the existing school buildings on it, the first 20 girls were taken into the orphanage and became sisters with their housemother and aunties. There has been a remarkable transformation of lives and services in this ministry as it has evolved and new needs have been addressed. The recent completion of a community center joins the original orphanage building to the second one built and includes green play spaces for the girls.
  • Many of the girls have graduated from our school, as well as, national schools they have attended on scholarships. Some girls have completed college and vocational schools and are gainfully employed and living on their own, while others are still in the midst of their studies.
  • Several older girls live in an apartment close to campus as they look for work or are employed. This is a time when they are honing their life skills like cooking and money management to prepare to live independently.
  • Cynthia has been working as a baker and is trying to start her own storefront location. She is busy completing her final business plan to be our first recipient of a small business loan.
  • Come partner with us in this ministry and enjoy a remarkable night with Ben to learn more.
